<(Ing): Otolithic organ: Primitive organ that appears in the lowest beings of the zoological scale, with absence of nervous system, whose function is to allow orientation in space. This organ has detectors to provide information on the direction of the force of gravity and is made up of small vesicles (statocysts) whose membrane on the inside has sensory cells and in its light contains a small pebble formed almost always by calcareous salts, which by its weight indicates the direction of the earth's centre of gravity.
