Malformación rara, congénita, del sistema nervioso central localizada en la fosa posterior o base del cráneo, que pertenece al grupo de las malformaciones de la charnela (unión entre la parte superior de la columna cervical y el cráneo). <(A): Arnold-Chiari-Malformation: ist eine seltene genetische Erkrankung, bei der Teile des Gehirns abnormal gebildet werden. Missbildungen können im unteren Teil des Gehirns (Kleinhirn) oder im Hirnstamm auftreten.

Les amygdales cérébelleuses sont anormalement basses et viennent s'engager au travers du trou occipital lui-même malformé. Parfois silencieuse, cette anomalie peut expliquer une hypertension intra-crânienne ou certains troubles neurologiques. Il s'agit de la principale cause de syringomyélie.
