Inflamación del conducto biliar común que transporta la bilis desde el hígado hasta la vesícula biliar y luego hasta el intestino concretamente hasta la cara medial de la porción descendente del duodeno. La causa más común de la colangitis es una infección bacteriana que puede ocurrir cuando se presenta obstrucción del conducto por cálculo biliar, estenosis o por un tumor (colangiocarcinoma).
