<(In.): External laryngeal nerve; external branch of superior laryngeal nerve: terminal branch of superior laryngeal nerve (with internal laryngeal nerve) supplying motor innervation to cricothyroid muscle. Origin: superior laryngeal nerve. Course and distribution: this nerve is motor and smaller than  the internal laryngeal nerve. It descends at the back of the sternothyroid, accompanied by the superior thyroid artery. It lies initially on the inferior constrictor of the pharynx and then it pierces this muscle to gain access to the cricothryoid, which it supplies. It gives branches to the pharyngeal plexus and to the inferior constrictor. Branches: Muscular branch to the cricothyroid, Muscular branch to inferior constrictor, Branch to pharyngeal plexus, Communicating branch to the superior cardiac nerve, Communicating branch to the superior cervical sympathetic ganglion. Fiber types: SVE fibers, which are motor to the muscles derived from the 4th pharyngeal arch and they are the cricothyroid and cricopharyngeal part of the inferior constrictor of pharynx. The external laryngeal nerve is the nerve supply of the muscles derived from the 4th pharyngeal arch. Root: motor fibers for muscles derived from the pharyngeal arches have their roots in the nucleus ambiguus of the vagal trigone in the rhomboid fossa.  ANATOMIA:ANATOMY OF THE HUMAN BODY. <(Ing)  FUENTES DE INFORMACION BIOMEDICA:BioInfoBank Librery. <(Ing)CISMeF. <(F)GOOGLE ACADEMICO. <(E)GOOGLE SCHOLAR. <(Ing)NCBI: Entrez. <(Ing)NLM: Gateway. <(Ing)SCIRUS. <(Ing)  TERMINOS RELACIONADOS:
