<(In.): Leukoaraiosis: descriptive term introduced in 1987 by Hachinski and colleagues to indicate the periventricular white matter MR hyperintensities frequently found in elderly people. It literally means "rarified white matter", and is most frequently an incidental finding unrelated to any clinical manifestations. The lesions of the disorder were originally called UBOs unidentified bright objects. The condition should be distinguished from subcortical atherosclerotic leukoencephalopathy, most likely a similar but more severe condition that may have neurological or behavioural signs. At CT an increased hypodensity of the white matter is observed while at MR a patchy diffuse T2 hyperintensity is observed. FUENTES DE INFORMACION BIOMEDICA: TERMINOS RELACIONADOS:
