En el ámbito médico se denomina infección nosocomial o infección intrahospitalaria a la infección contraída por pacientes ingresados en un recinto de atención a la salud (no sólo hospitales). Son consideradas nosocomiales las infecciones que se producen 48 horas después del ingreso hospitalario.
