Cavidad sacular músculo-membranosa comprendida entre la base del cráneo y el principio del esófago. Encrucijada de la vía digestiva y respiratoria, ya que a la faringe se abren las fosas nasales, trompa de Eustaquio, boca, laringe y esófago.

   <(F.): Pharynx: carrefour aérodigestif musculo-membraneux en forme d'entonnoir situé au-dessus de l'osophage et du larynx, communiquant en avant avec la bouche (oropharynx), en haut avec les fosses nasales (rhinopharynx), et recevant latéralement les trompes auditives ou d'Eustache.

      <(Ing): Pharynx: is a fibromuscular tube which extends from the base of the skull to the lower border of the cricoid cartilage, at which point it becomes the esophagus. Portions of the pharynx lie posterior to the nasal cavity (nasal pharynx), oral cavity (oral pharynx) and larynx (laryngeal pharynx). The muscular walls of the pharynx are comprised of an outer layer made up of 3 circularly disposed muscles, the constrictors. The constrictors are logically named (from superior most to inferior most) the superior, middle and inferior pharyngeal constrictors.
