Capa exterior de la piel no vascular, situada por encima de la dermis, y está compuesta por cinco estratos: basal o germinativo, espinoso o de malpighi, granuloso, lúcido y córneo. No está inevada ni vascularizada.

   <(F): Épiderme: tissu superficiel, d'origine ectodermique, d'un organisme en contact avec le milieu extérieur. Produit des formations cutanées ou phanères (ongles, poils, plumes, cornes).

   <(Ing): Epidermis: the superficial epithelial portion of the skin (cutis). The thick epidermis of the palms and soles contains the following strata, from the surface: stratum corneum (keratin layer), stratum lucidum (clear layer), stratum granulosum (granular layer), stratum spinosum (prickle cell layer), and stratum basale (basal cell layer); in other parts of the body, the stratum lucidum and stratum granulosum may be absent.
