Tumor maligno que se origina en las células no glandulares, en oposición a los adenocarcinomas. Es la variedad más común en los tumores de garganta, boca y cuello uterino.   Sinónimos: carcinoma malpigiano, carcinoma espinocelular, epitelioma espinocelular.

   <(F.): Carcinome épidermoïde: carcinome reproduisant, de façon plus ou moins élaborée, la structure d'un épithélium malpighien et naissant, habituellement mais non toujours, dans un épithélium de ce type.

   <(In.): Epidermoid carcinoma: cancer that begins in squamous cells, which are thin, flat cells that look like fish scales. Squamous cells are found in the tissue that forms the surface of the skin, the lining of the hollow organs of the body, and the lining of the respiratory and digestive tracts. Also called squamous cell carcinoma.
