Vestigio embriológico de origen faríngeo (endodérmico) del lóbulo anterior de la hipófisis. Es el punto desde el que la hipófisis embrionaria emigra a su situación final. Se ha comunicado la posibilidad de que esta formación pueda originar tumores o tejido hipofisario ectópico (craneofaringioma). 

    <(F): Poche de Rahtke: diverticule (sorte de doigt de gant) du toit de la bouche chez l'embryon. Cette structure anatomique embryonnaire donne naissance à une partie de l'hypophyse (glande située en dessous de l'hypothalamus au centre du cerveau) : l'adénohypophyse.

   <(Ing): Rahtke's pouch: eventually loses its connection with the pharynx giving rise to the anterior pituitary. The anterior wall of Rathke's pouch proliferates, filling most of the pouch to form pars distalis and pars tuberalis. The posterior wall forms pars intermedia. In some organisms (humans being a notable exception), the proliferating anterior wall does not fully occupy Rathke's pouch, leaving a remnant (Rathke's cleft) between the pars distalis and pars intermedia.
