 Vladimir Mikhailovich Beckhterev (1867-1927), neurólogo ruso nacido en Surali, una pequeña villa entre el Volga y los Urales. Estudió con Wundt en Leipzig donde trabajó con Flechsig y asistió a las demostraciones que Charcot hacía con enfermos de histeria en París. También visitó a Westphal y Meynet. Se dedicó a investigar la psicología de la actividad nerviosa y los reflejos condicionados. Su teoría reflexológica es mecanicista y puede considerarse como el origen de las actuales escuelas de la psicología de la conducta. Por lo que a la ORL se refiere en 1885 describió el núcleo vestibular superior que lleva su nombre. Fue profesor de psiquiatría en la universidad de Kazan y colega de Paulov.
<(Ing): This young Russian scientist was, early on, involved in psychiatry moved at the end of the nineteenth century into the study of anatomy, psychology and pathology of the nervous system and was privileged to become a student of the great Flechsig in Leipzig when he described the superior vestibular nucleus which bears his name. He also studied the relationship between the brain and behavior as an anatomist. He made studies on reflexes and on the cortical representation of visceral functions of blood pressure of pupillary, gastrointestinal, urovesical and anorectal mobility and of glaudular secretory activity.
