Acúmulo de pus entre la corteza mastoidea y el periostio que la cubre. Es consecutivo o simultáneo a otitis media aguda o crónica, cuando ésta se complica con una mastoiditis produciéndo erosión y fístula mastoidea al exterior. Más frecuente en niños pequeños.
Sinónimos: absceso subperióstico de mastoides.

<(Ing): Mastoid abscess: abscess of the mastoid air cells. Is still a recognised complication of acute otitis media, especially in patients who are immunocompromised. Immunocompetent patients may also develop mastoid abscess following chronic otitis media associated with cholesteatoma.
