MÁCULA ACÚSTICA

   Maculae acusticae: Estructura neuroepitelial situada en el utrículo y sáculo que forma parte de los receptores del laberinto posterior. Está formada por un epitelio plano con una supraestructura denominada otoconia constituida por una sustancia gelatinosa que contiene cristales de carbonato cálcico (otolitos). La del sáculo es irregularmente alargada e incurvada. La del utrículo es semicircular o triangular. Cada una recibe el correspondiente filete nervioso terminar el nervio vestibular.

   <(Ing): macula: thickened area within saccule and utricle consisting of hair cells and supporting cells. In both the saccule and utricle, the macula is covered by the gelatinous otolithic membrane containing otoliths.
